richard colman = witty and clever

richard colman's work reminds me of a mix between neckface, monica canlilao and paul chatem. i'm liking the simple figures, clean lines, bright colors and balanced compositions. witty and clever to boot.

stromtrooper love

this guy takes one portrait of storm trooper figurines each day. such great shots!! (this is me nerding out.)

chuck brown who?

i've been in love with charlie brown since i was little. the key moment was watching poor charlie brown waiting all alone in that pumpkin patch on halloween. i distinctly remember crying(on the inside) and thinking to myself, "i'd wait with you in the pumpkin patch, charlie brown."

thanks, tim o'brian for ruining what could have been a lasting courtship by bringing my attention to my poor sense in taste. little did i know that my sweet charlie was a freaky monster?! i will always have a place for you... somewhere...

visit "chuck brown" at Copro Gallery's Monster? exhibition in santa monica, ca through august 1. (you missed the opening- july 11)

james jean inspires me

james jean's talent is beyond measure... i am strangely drawn to his abnormal and ghoulish creatures and am oddly excited at the fact that he really really loves willows.

his characters remind me of those seen on pans labrynth- one of my absolute favorite movies. guillermo del toro is a genius.

2% knowing when to stop...

a few good quotes for all you creative folk.

What is the mark of Web success in 2009? A million page views in a week? A spike in Twitter mentions? Both are meaningful indices, but not quite as satisfying as traffic crashing your whole site. It’s the Internet version of a standing ovation.
— Sasha Frere-Jones

Design is 70% dealing with people, 3% the idea, 2% selling the idea, 2% the brief, 2% being pig headed, 1% printing, 3% eye for detail, .6% invoices, 2% coffee, .7% tracking, .1% warm glow, .6% panic, 1% 4am, .6% staring, .2% checking, 1% letting go, .8% keeping hold, .7% estimates, .3% checking, .4% proofs, .1% colour, .9% understanding, .4% marketing, 1% checking, .8% beach ball, .5% mice, .3% keynotes, .4% persuasion, .2% bragging, .5% smiling, 2% knowing when to stop.

just lovely…

lately i have been very into the idea of designing and building my own home. thus far, i have a collection of images and ideas and places(one in particular) that have yet to be put into action. someday… until then i will share them here.

can i live here? love bay windows and that light! so clean and comfy.

and here? ooh, an office with tons of storage and places to display things. who wouldn’t be inspired in here? or overwhelmed?lol same difference.

and here? great color, texture, outdoor shower? not sure i need that but would be handy if you lived by the beach, or hot springs, or something...

thank you apartment therapy for feeding my daily visual addiction. all homes in this post are located in San Francisco.

dreamscapes with a pop of color

clockwise: study, still life, P.M.A., solar do nothing machine

the work of paul wackers reminds me of funky collages using colorful textures to create organic forms and shapes. many are reminiscent of dali’s work, with his intriguing object juxtaposition and lucid dreamscapes. i am most attracted to his vivid color pallet, with pops and splashes of color here and there moving your eye around each piece. sort of reminds me of an 80’s t-shirt design. so funky fresh.

side notes:
* wackers is the 02009 tournesol awardee forlanscape and still life paintings and will be showing at the luggage store in san francisco july 10 – august 8, opening reception on friday, july 10th.
* past tournesol awardees include, clare e. rojas, chris ballantyne, yoon lee, leslie shows, and ana teresa fernández.

oh my god, shoes!

ahh, my very first blog post...

This is my first blog! Yes, I know, hard to believe, or not. Anyway, expect to be visually stimulated.

This blog is intended to be my wish list and compilation of things I fancy and covet, find interesting or hilarious, or all of the above. Basically, it will be composed list of things I like all wrapped up in a pretty, easily navigable package. I’m liking the idea of presenting my findings in a more visually appealing, organized, online sort of way. Sans the leftover corpses of magazines with pages ripped out and my never ending list of bookmarks.

enjoy!
